Anita McSorley Virtual Exhibit
This exhibit is a small fraction of Anita McSorley’s fiber creations. Anita was a long-time member of the Fiber Arts Council and director of the Fiber Arts Fiesta for 2015, 2017 and 2019. She was an artist who pursued so many directions in our small world and creator of many beautiful quilts and other fiber art pieces.
Anita truly “belonged” to each of the many groups she chose for belonging. Those guilds included the Albuquerque Modern Quilt Guild, New Mexico Quilters Association, Thimbleweeds, Studio Art Quilt Associates, New Mexico Polymer Clay Guild, Las Aranas Spinning abd Weaving Guild, Sewing Guild, Mixed Media Textile Artists of New Mexico, Bead Society of New Mexico and others that sparked her creativity. Additionally Anita encouraged and insprited others to joing her love of fiber by teaching at local quilt stores, and welcoming other artists to her cabin in the Jemez mountains for artistic retreats (involving birds, squirrels, M&M’s and wine). Her works in fiber art won awards at local and national levels and have been published in books magazines, along with her original patterns and designs.
Anita lost her battle with cancer on September 23, 2020, but we will never lose what she brought to our fiber community. We celebrate her love of fiber and all the people she touched with her gentile spirit. We love and miss her greatly.
